-Chalazia is a silicon mineral, specifically pure silica, the second most abundant mineral in nature.
-The name comes from the word “halaza” because of the similarity of the color of the common chalazia with hail.
-It is known internationally by the name “Quartz”, a term derived from the old German word Quarz, of unknown etymology.
The different varieties of Chalazia are named after their colour or shape.
