Moonstone is a sodium potassium potassium silicate of the feldspar group.
It is a translucent gemstone, an orthoclase feldspar that has a pearly glow.
The characteristic glow of the Moonstone is known as Shiller or adularescence and is caused by the growth within it of two different types of astrium with different types of refraction.
It comes in a variety of colours ranging from colourless to grey, brown, yellow, green or pink.
Moonstone has been used in jewellery for millennia, including by ancient cultures. In more recent history, the Moonstone became popular during the Art Nouveau period.
The Moonstone is said to bring good luck.
