Moonstone is a sodium potassium aluminium silicate of the feldspar group.
It is a translucent gemstone, an orthoclase feldspar with a pearly sheen.
Moonstone’s characteristic glow is known as schiller or adularescence, and it is caused by two different types of feldspar growing inside the stone, each refracting light differently.
It comes in a range of colours, from colourless to grey, brown, yellow, green or pink.
Moonstone has been used in jewellery for millennia, including by ancient civilisations. In more recent history, moonstone became popular during the Art Nouveau period.
Moonstone is said to bring good luck.
