-Lavradorite is a translucent mineral belonging to the large mineralogical family of asters.
– When the surface of Labradorite is polished, it displays a striking iridescence. A play of light with alternating reflections of many colours. This optical phenomenon is created by the reflection of light in the successive surface layers,and is called labradorscence.
-Labradorite is named after the province of Labrador in Canada, where it was discovered around 1800. Today the material is found in Ukraine, the Ural Mountains, the USA and Canada.
-The valuable qualities of Labradorite, used in jewellery making, are the following: 1) Spectrolite,which is the best quality of labradorite,and exists in small quantities in Finland 2) Sunstone,which has orange-brown shades and 3) Moonstone.
