Handmade silver ring with Amethyst and Peridot (Amethyst, Peridot) from the series Bowl.

1) Peridot is a transparent mineral that has the green color of olive oil. Its name is probably derived from the Persian word faridat, which means gemstone.
Peridot was known since ancient times. The Egyptians extracted peridot from the island of Zebirget in the Red Sea. These mines existed until 1920.
It was also known in ancient Greece, but they called it Topazio. The Romans knew and used peridot, which they called “emerald of the night”.
Peridot is the precious quality of Olivine (sometimes called Chrysolite), a mineral that is quite common. But it is quite rare in olivine deposits.
It is one of the few gemstones that appear consistently in a single colour, which is more intense the more iron is present as an impurity in its mass.
The largest amount of peridot is extracted from mines in Arizona, USA, but it is of relatively low quality. In Pakistan, in a rugged area on the border with Afghanistan, there are peridot mines of excellent quality.This is where the peridot that is traded worldwide for fine jewellery comes from.
A large piece of peridot decorates the reliquary of the Three Kings, located in the Cathedral of Colonia.
In modern times, peridot is in constant demand in the jewellery industry for its unique colour and other characteristics that make it a popular gemstone.

2)Amethyst is a violet (violet or purple) variant of the mineral quartz and is used for decorative purposes as a gemstone.

It starts life as transparent quartz but when found in places on the Earth’s mantle where high temperatures and pressures develop it turns purple. Of course, depending on the variety of the stone, the purple may border on black, while in another cut it may appear completely colourless.The name comes from the abstract “a” and the verb “to get drunk” (mitho), as in ancient times it was believed that this gemstone protected the wearer from drunkenness!In ancient times it was one of the rarest and most valuable stones and its price often equaled or exceeded that of a diamond! The price of this stone dropped when huge deposits of it were discovered in South America.Amethyst is said to be the stone of meditation.
