-Corneol (or Carnelian) is a reddish-brown mineral commonly used as a semi-precious stone.
It is a variety of chalcedony stone of a mineral containing silica, colored with iron oxide!
-Corneol’s colour varies widely from light orange to intense, almost black.
-Corneolite was preserved in the Minoan layers of the Bronze Age in Knossos, Crete, in a form that proves that it was used in decorative arts (1800 BC).
Corneol was widely used during Roman times in the creation of gemstone vessels for sealing rings used to imprint a seal in wax on correspondence.
-The term Karneoli is a 16th century corruption of the 14th century word Korneoli. The word corneolus comes from the medieval Latin “corneolus” which came from the Latin word “cornum” which is the tree of the horseradish tree, a kind of wild cherry tree, whose almost transparent red fruits resemble this stone.
The Oxford English Dictionary distorts the term “Corneol” and calls this mineral “Carneol” by analogy with the Latin word “caro” (-rnis) meaning flesh.
-Corneol is considered a stone of self-respect and self-confidence.
