Quartz is a silicon mineral, specifically pure silica, the second most abundant mineral in nature.
Its name is derived from the word “Halaza” because of the similarity of the color of the common Chalazia to hail.
It is known internationally as “Quartz”, a term derived from the old German word “Quarz”, of unknown etymology.
The different varieties of Chalazia are named after their colour or shape.
